To further enhance the environment of Sai Kung to tie in with the Government’s effort in promoting the development of local economy, the Sai Kung District Council invited the Hong Kong Design Institute under Vocational Training Council to co-organise the “Sai Kung Waterfront Renewal Project” in 2006. Students of Higher Diploma in Interior Design from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin) worked towards creating an attractive image for the Sai Kung waterfront through leveraging on its natural and cultural resources.
In 2009, the Sai Kung District Office proposed to adopt public works project approach to expedite the Sai Kung Waterfront Beautification Project. Preliminary consideration was made to convert the existing minibus terminal and part of bus terminal into an open piazza under the Sai Kung Waterfront extension project. In view of planning and designing public transport interchanges, rationalization of public transportation route network and traffic arrangements, Transport Department was taking the proposal into consideration.
